Who we are

Who's Who
Professor Alison Richard  - Network President
Professor Alison Richard Professor Alison Richard - the Vice-chancellor of the University of Cambridge - is the President of the Cambridge Network.

She says: 'Cambridge is fortunate in its well-established links between the University and the cluster of science-contingent companies which have grown up around it.

'The Cambridge Network, which bridges the business and academic communities across the Cambridge region, is uniquely placed to further these links for the benefit of its members and the region as a whole. I look forward to involvement in the next phase of the Network's plans.'

The University of Cambridge was one of the six Founders of the Cambridge Network and its previous Vice-chancellor, Sir Alec Broers was the first chairman of the Cambridge Network.

Dr Peter Hewkin, Cambridge Network's CEO, adds: 'We are all grateful to Sir Alec for his vision and encouragement in getting the Network off the ground. It is an important endorsement of the Network's role that an individual of the standing of Professor Richard has been willing to take on the role of president and we look forward to working with her to further raise Cambridge's game.'

Associates
(we are grateful for the help of a growing number of unpaid associates - who help us deliver Cambridge Network events and initiatives).
These include:

USA Associate

Malcolm Burwell

Malcolm Burwell leads the Cambridge Network (UK/US) group in Boston Massachusetts. Malcolm has founded two other 'Cambridge (UK)-related' technology companies in the Boston area: Absolute Sensors Ltd. (VP Commercial) and Racetrace Inc. (CEO). Since his time working for PA Consulting Group in Melbourn in the 1980s, he has also worked as a principal and VP licensing for PA Consulting in Princeton, New Jersey and The Generics Group in Waltham, Massachusetts. To complete his golden links to Cambridge, he holds an Engineering degree from Cambridge University. In short, Malcolm is a US technology ambassador for Cambridge UK... and one with a wry sense of fun, judging by the topics he imposes on the Cambridge Network (UK/US) events that he holds in Cambridge, Massachusetts (near Boston) at the British Consulate.

Shanghai Associate

  Ying Yang

Ying worked as a business consultant and business development manager for TTP Group based in the UK.  TTP Group is the largest independent technology development and consultancy in Europe.  She has been involved in various consultancy projects and played a leading role in introducing Group’s products and services into China.  Ying now splits her time between UK and China, and heads TTP local office in Shanghai.

Prior to joining TTP, Ying had worked in China for eight years, starting her career as an international business development manager for shipbuilding industry. She managed a number of transactions for shipbuilding and led an acquisition of a subsidiary company. She then turned her hand onto entrepreneurship, developing from scratch a hi-tech business into a profitable and high growth company servicing Chinese financial institutions.

Ying has an MBA from Judge Institute, Cambridge University and a BS from Shanghai Tongji University.

Cambridge Associates

Chris Ilsley

Chris currently works at East of England International. Chris has previously worked in account management and business development for a number of life science companies including Novartis and has lived and worked in the United States. Currently Chris lives in one of the villages on the outskirts of Cambridge with his wife and menagerie of animals.

Joana organises the healthcare related activites of the Cambridge Network.

Dr Joanna Segieth is a Clinical Scientist with 10 years’ experience in drug development acquired at GlaxoSmithKline and DuPontPharma.

Joanna’s main business interest includes the question of “how to successfully translate pre-clinical findings into phase I studies to maximise confidence before large-scale proof of efficacy studies?’’. The exponential growth in biomedical techniques now offers a wide range of solutions: imaging technology, biomarkers and data simulation, but which are the best to follow?

She would like to link to people who are seeking solutions to similar questions.

She gained her B.Sc. and doctorate in the Faculty of Science from the University of London and has pursued her career in clinical research since.

She enjoys running and is currently training for the 2009 London Marathon, to raise money for the care of people with brain injuries.
