Abcam was founded in 1998, by Dr Jonathan Milner, to supply a global resource for scientists to find and purchase high quality research antibodies (essential tools for scientists that enable them to analyse the components of living cells at the molecular level).

The company has grown rapidly to over 200 employees in the UK, US and Japan, and now has customers in over 70 countries. The business now has an annualised turnover in excess of £50 million and Abcam is recognised as one of the leading companies in its field. With over 52,000 products in our catalog - including a growing range of non-antibody products such as proteins, peptides, lysates, slides and kits - we've come a long way from selling antibodies in an ice-bucket! 

The success of Abcam comes from the speed with which it can bring high quality cutting-edge products to market, so that scientists' research is not impeded by the lack of, or inability to find, a particular reagent. This speeds up the pace of research into important diseases such as cancer and coronary heart disease. Abcam provides reagents for some of the newest and fastest growing research areas:

Based in the Cambridge Science Park, Cambridge UK, Abcam opened an office in Cambridge, MA, in 2003 to better serve their thriving North American customer base. In December 2006 this was followed by a second overseas office in Tokyo Japan, reflecting the rapid expansion of Abcam’s international customer base in recent years.
