 BTAdastral Park (Martlesham Heath) in Ipswich is home to 3,500 of BT's top scientists, engineers and business people. Our employees include many who are world leaders in their specialist fields, working at the forefront of standards development and new technologies in areas such as broadband applications and services, IP and data networks, IT, mobility, network design and management, and business applications. We provide research, development and consulting services for BT - developing innovative technological ideas and solutions that translate into practical and marketable solutions for the business. Our labs played a leading role in the development of global communications standards and we inherit from them a science and engineering base acknowledged widely as second to none. BT spent £257 million on Research and Development in 2004/2005. The Research Programme builds sustainable leading edge technology and services to deliver technology advantage to the BT Group. Built in partnership with the BT Lines of Business, it delivers a commercial programme of research that addresses BT's future needs. The programme provides focused world-class levels of innovation, and a knowledge base in relevant technologies that underpins the strategy and plans for the company. Creating innovative technology solutions for BT's strategic priorities, it will champion innovative and profitable new ICT, Broadband, mobility propositions from technology and disruptive capabilities. The Research & Venturing business model is about maximising value creation to BT, funded through internal investment, formal collaborative programmes, contract research and licensing. Research contributes to providing best-in-class technology capabilities for BT but also underpins the creation and acquisition of the technology that both transforms BT's own infrastructure as well as powering the drive into ICT markets.
