The Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) brings together over 150 industrialists, policy makers, researchers and students to share, develop and deliver leading-edge education, research and services for local, national and international manufacturing industries. Our services are designed to help companies grow and increase their competitiveness across the business cycle, so helping industry to create wealth more effectively. The IfM was established in 1998 as part of the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge. Specialist areas include Strategy and Performance, International Manufacturing, Economics and Policy, Technology Management, Industrial Sustainability, Production Processes, Decision Support, and Distributed Automation and Control. We work with leading companies, large and small, including BAE Systems, Caterpillar, Domino Printing Sciences, GKN, GlaxoSmithKline, Herbert Group, Inca Digital, Michell Instruments Ltd, Philips, Rolls-Royce and Sofa & Co, as well as having strong links to regional and national government bodies in the UK and abroad.
