Open Meeting: 'Growth capital - vital oxygen for the innovation economy'

Don't miss our next big Open Meeting on 16 March about a subject vital to very many Cambridge companies: technology investment!

Start date/time:  18:00 Tuesday 16 March 2010
End date/time:  21:00 Tuesday 16 March 2010
Venue:  Robinson College, Grange Road, Cambridge CB3 9AN
Organiser name:  Cambridge Network Ltd

Technology stocks rose 59% in the S&P index in 2009, beating the S&P 500 average of 24%, yet funding for technology remains hard to find. Technology businesses have to make best use of all sources of growth capital during the recession, with many investors constrained to follow-on existing investments.

Our panel of experienced technology investors will share their insights into the best practical approaches they are seeing technology companies take to find capital and how technology funding will evolve. Taking part in the discussions will be

Michael Magnay, Kleinwort Benson, who will also chair the meeting. Michael heads the Cambridge Office of Kleinwort Benson. He has been with the company for twelve years, initially as an analyst, prior to running discretionary and advisory portfolios for private individuals, charities and trusts.  He has been actively involved in product development and the introduction of alternative asset classes into client portfolios.

Laurence John, Amadeus. Laurence is chief executive of the Amadeus & Angels Seed Fund (AASF), with £10 million under management and up to £10 million for co-investment from Amadeus III. AASF is dedicated to providing seed money for start-up companies spanning the technology sectors, with the exception of Life Sciences.

Graham O'Keeffe, Atlas Venture.  Graham (pictured) is a Venture Partner in the technology group.  He joined Atlas Venture in 1998 and focuses on investments in communications technology companies, particularly in the wireless and semiconductor sectors.

Dr Michael Mainelli, Emeritus Gresham Professor of Commerce, Gresham College, London.  Dr Mainelli is also Executive Chairman of Z/Yen, a City-based risk/reward firm, where he works on strategy, technology, finance and business development.
