Business sponsors are sought for a conference next month - Artificial Intelligence: Disrupting Sustainability - organised by the Sustainable Development Forum and taking place at the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge.

Today the pace of innovation is as high and rapid as it has ever been. Current digital technologies stimulate development and create connections between concepts that have never been associated with each other before. One such relationship is between the concepts of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Sustainable Development; this conference recognises  the importance and actuality of this relationship.

Polina Liubomirova, Conference Team Member, says: "The Sustainable Development Forum (SDF) was initiated to discuss and promote 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit 2015 with a series of conferences on different focus areas. The first conference was held in Belgrade in February 2016 on the Role of Education and Culture in Sustainable Development Agenda. It was opened by the Deputy Prime Minister and the Director of the UN Team in Serbia.

"Following its success, the second conference will be held in Cambridge on Saturday 25 February 2017, focusing on the impacts of Artificial Intelligence and digital technologies on sustainability, smart economy and the transformation of the job market, disruption within industry, ethics and education.

"Keynote speakers include Lord Martin Rees, Astronomer Royal, President of the Royal Society (2005-2010) and Sir Paul Judge, Key Benefactor of the Judge Business School, along with guest speakers from Barclays, Nesta and Mind the Bridge. Others are still to be confirmed.

"We are expecting to see representatives from private and public sector, entrepreneurs, young professionals, students and academics as our audience, and welcome the opportunity to talk about sponsorship with local businesses. If you are interested, please contact me at office@sd-forum.com ."

About the conference

Drawing on perspectives from leaders in academia, business, policy and the public sector, the conference aims to become a platform for analysing and responding to the key questions arising around AI and its impact on Sustainable Development for generations to come.

Topics to be covered include:
● Transforming Conventional Industries with AI
● Ethical aspects of AI
● Job Markets Transformation in the Smart Economy
● Effects of AI and Machine Learning on Education

Specifically, the conference will tackle questions on the potential of AI to shape the process of the United Nations 2030 Agenda’s implementation, focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals. Therefore, the issues to be addressed include the responsible consumption and production of consumer goods, and raising quality of education and economic growth by recognising the significant role of innovation and digital infrastructure.

The conference will also recognise the importance of the private and public partnerships for the goals’ implementation in technology sectors, which help to foster peace and justice - the key concepts of sustainability.

AI has become the key focus area of the so called New Industrial Revolution, providing a range of opportunities, and at the same time - many risks. Our goal is to give an insight into the topic, exchange experts’ opinions to formulate solutions and strategies for the successful implementation of the Sustainable Development 2030 Agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals and challenges ahead.
