'Celebrate apprentices as they are our future'

It is National Apprenticeship Week this week (23-27 February 2009).

Urges Kelly Warren, MREC DipRP of aspire recruitment solutions: “Apprenticeship week is an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the essential role that Apprenticeships are playing in today’s business community, ensuring that the workforce has the skills it needs in order to remain competitive, even in difficult economic circumstances. Too many young people get left behind if they are not academically gifted. It's important that people gather experience and skills so they become experts in something…”

Like many jobseekers, Amy Hind, who is the first apprentice to be hired through aspire, had applied for many positions only to receive letters of rejection due to lack of skills, experience and qualifications. aspire recruitment solutions made a conscious decision in 2008 to introduce learning and development opportunities within their employment agency under a train to gain scheme and the results have been outstanding reports founder, Kelly Warren.

Jo Fisher, Office Manager at aspire has been responsible for the ongoing support, development and training since Amy joined the organisation. Jo comments “RAW talent is unique and allows candidates to be trained, mentored and challenged without any preconceptions or negative ideas from past experiences. From day one we offered Amy a variety of tasks and responsibilities and within weeks her confidence soared. Mix confidence with enthusiasm and you have a recipe for success.”

Initially enrolled under an eighteen month NVQ programme, aspire are proud to announce that Amy’s exams were bought forward by fourteen months and on Tuesday 24th February Amy secured results of 93% in her unit exams. Amy will continue to practice her work based learning assessment however these look to reach completion within the next few months.

Amy quotes “I really enjoy being part of a team where I make a difference whilst learning and earning!”

Impressed with her progress, aspire recruitment solutions are now endorsing Amy as Regional Apprentice of the Year through the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) Regional Awards. From here they hope that Amy will reach National Apprentice of the Year at an Oscar-style celebratory awards ceremony at the Old Billingsgate in London on the evening of the 16th July 2009.
