![]() Acro Precision EngineeringDate: 26/05/09 4 axis CNC milling puts Acro in pole position for prototype development Precision engineering company Acro have announced the launch of a new service to provide 3D machining for fast prototype development. Using SolidCAM CADCAM technology driving a Mazak Vertical Machining Centre, Acro is able to work directly from computer generated files enabling them to machine components quickly and accurately, with zero defects.
Working in a broad range of materials, Acro is able to machine large and small format components, castings and turned parts. They are also able to produce complete assemblies and provide specialist finishes and treatments.
“We’ve been in business for over 30 year’s, so our knowledge of material behaviour combined with this technology makes us a safe pair of hands when it comes to machining important components,” said Fred Pain General Manager. “Over the year’s we’ve worked in a lot of fields, such as the oil industry, automotive, medical, rail transport and the hi-tech sector. We can undertake high volume production as well as prototypes and low volume orders.”
Recent projects for their 4 Axis machining centre have included the machining of complex helix designs for the oil industry, a number of complex high-accuracy components for military communications systems, specialist components for performance sports cars and enclosure designs for airport security devices.
“The SolidCAM software and the Mazak machining centre have exceeded all our expectations,” said Fred. “It was a big investment, but the results that we are getting can be quite stunning. Several of our projects could not have been undertaken without this level of technology. They would have been impossible to machine on conventional CNC machines.”
In addition to Acro advanced CNC milling capability, Acro runs a number of production machines that include sliding head and multi-spindle technologies. Acro is able undertake ‘light out’ machining and is also equipped to machine specialist exotic materials such as titanium, inconel, monel and stainless 316.
