![]() Marshall of Cambridge (Holdings) LimitedDate: 17/09/09 Marshall of Cambridge welcomes family and friends at Open Day this SundayAs part of its centenary celebrations, Marshall of Cambridge will be holding a Family and Friends Open Day this Sunday (20th September 2009). This is for the benefit of employees, and the company is expecting around 15,000 people to be present.
The Open Day will start at midday, but that will be preceded by a cavalcade of cars representing 100 years of the Company’s history which will drive from the Newmarket Road Park and Ride Site to the Company’s premises via Barnwell Road and Barnwell Drive, leaving the Park and Ride Site at approximately 10.15 am. The Family Open Day will include a concert orchestra which will be playing from 1pm until 2.30pm in the Company’s largest aircraft hangar, with children from St Faith’s School Steel Band playing in the interval. Four pop groups will be playing in another aircraft hangar between midday and 2.00pm, and the brass bands of the Royal British Legion Fulbourn and Teversham Branch and the Newmarket Town Band will be entertaining the crowds continuously from midday until 4.00pm. Freddie and Friends, a local jazz quartet, will be playing in a marquee and the Halton Golden Oldies Pipe Band will be performing in the main arena. A fun fair is being set up on the airfield together with a large number of side shows and stalls raising money for a wide variety of charities. The day will culminate in a very special flying display which will trace the Company’s 80 years in aviation. It will include the only flying B17 aircraft Sally B from Duxford reflecting that Marshall began working on these aircraft in 1941. The air display will also include two classic Avro Bomber aircraft: the Avro Lancaster from the 2nd World War and the only flying Avro Vulcan V Bomber which Marshall Aerospace has helped get back into the air. In addition to an exciting mixture of other aircraft in the air display, the flying display will be concluded with an appearance by the Red Arrows who will be performing at 6.00pm. ******* TERRY HOLLOWAY Copyright Cambridge Network 2010
