The awards honour the five most innovative inventions that have gone public over the last year from Cambridge companies across a wide variety of sectors, including the technical, medical and digital fields.
CCS was founded in 2010, with the specific purpose of developing a wireless backhaul system for small cells. These will be an essential part of mobile networks moving forward to optimise the use of radio spectrum, helping mobile operators deal with the capacity challenges that lie ahead as data traffic continues to soar.
The CCS small cell backhaul system is unique for its self-organising capabilities and multipoint-to-multipoint architecture. These two attributes are key to satisfying mobile operators’ needs for a solution that’s reliable, quick and easy to install, flexible, low-cost and makes the most efficient use of radio spectrum.
CCS CEO and co-founder Steve Greaves, who received the award at a ceremony at Clare College, commented, “Cambridge is a veritable hotbed of innovation that commands respect on the world stage, so winning this award is a real accolade. And it will help us continue to attract top engineering talent in the Cambridge area as the company enters its next phase of growth.”
