Robinson College launches Green+

Robinson College has launched a new service package to help clients achieve sustainability goals.

The University of Cambridge’s Robinson College has launched Green+, a new service package designed to minimise the impact of commercial business activity on the environment, whilst helping meet the sustainability goals of the college and its clients.

The new package will encourage the use of environmentally considerate initiatives, such as ensuring conference correspondence is electronic, the provision of recycling facilities in all meeting roomsand arranging for conference materials to be locally sourced and delivered. Green+ will also give clients the opportunity to convey their CSR goals, allowing the college to help them in meeting these at their event.

Robinson College is well known for its commitment to sustainability, having put in place the ‘College Environmental Policy’ legislation which acknowledges a responsibility for, and a commitment to the protection of the environment at all levels, and is monitored and updated via the ‘College Environment Forum’.

Last year the college was commended for these initiatives when it won Silver in the National Union of Students Impact Awards, which rewards and celebrates academic venues that take measures to reduce the environmental impact of their day-to-day operations.

Nick Milne, conference and catering manager, says: “Achieving our sustainability goals is incredibly important to Robinson College, so we take great efforts to ensure that we are reducing any negative impacts that our commercial operations has on the environment. Just recently the catering team has joined the college’s ‘Low Carbon Meal’ scheme, which aims to raise awareness of the carbon impact of producing and serving food, and encourages our customers to choose more carbon-friendly meals.”

He adds: “We know that CSR is a priority to many of our clients, so we hope that Green+ will help them to easily achieve these goals and make their events more environmentally friendly.”

Green+ is the latest addition to the college’s award winning Service+ portfolio, which also includes Delegate+, an electronic tool to help manage delegates’ bookings from invitation through to the day of the event, and Tech+, which provides organisers with technical support and gives attendees up to 300 mbps of Wi-Fi connectivity.

Sustainability is set to be a key focus at the next Clic+ event, set to take place at Robinson College on 1 October 2015.
