Top tips to help you ‘tame your computer’ – 700 and counting

Software training expert Karen Roem – who has been sharing valuable hints, tricks and shortcuts to help users make the most of Microsoft Office for many years – this week publishes her 700th tip.

Karen, self-styled Microsoft Office-ionado, says: “Most people use only a fraction of their software’s capabilities and tend to stick to just the things they know. But there is so much more!”

Karen, who heads her own Cambridge-based training and support company, Roem Limited, started publishing weekly computer tips in 2003, almost two decades ago. And she has since accumulated a fantastic library of knowledge covering all aspects of computer applications – helping you to navigate and optimise Excel, use nifty shortcuts on your keyboard rather than your mouse in Word, and improve and jazz up potentially boring PowerPoint presentations. Further tips in the now 700-strong arsenal help you to maximise the capabilities of Outlook, Windows and Microsoft Teams.

“I know through my training sessions that people absolutely love to find new ways to save time or effort,” adds Karen, who sends weekly tips to online subscribers and until recently also published regularly on the Cambridge Network website.

"I never expected to reach the grand total of 700 but I know there are many more to come – every week I still discover new possibilities; sometimes through my own work, but often through my course delegates, who offer their own ideas.

“My enthusiasm for making technology work well for people has never waned and I look forward to continuing to help people make the most of their software."
