Business Lecture: Medical Robotics (a Cambridge Network event)

Registration is closed for this event
Cambridge Medical Robotics and Cambridge Bio-Augmentation Systems will be delivering a fascinating talk about their particular roles in the field of medical robotics.

This event will focus on the rapidly developing field of medical robotics. Our three speakers will be Founders and CEOs from Cambridge Medical Robotics and Cambridge Bio-Augmentation Systems. Both companies use robotics for two very different aspects of medical treatment; Cambridge Medical Robotics use next generation robots for minimal access surgery, whilst Cambridge Bio-Augmentation Systems focusses on bionics for amputees.

Our first speaker will be Martin Frost, CEO of Cambridge Medical Robotics. CMR is developing the world’s smallest, next-generation universal robotic system for minimal access surgery which looks set to transform the existing market for surgical robotics. Global annual revenues for robot-assisted minimal access surgery are presently approximately $4 billion and are anticipated to reach $20 billion by 2025 ('Industry Forecast, Accuray Research'). Cambridge Medical Robotics has grown rapidly since incorporation in 2014, employing its 100th employee this summer, six months ahead of schedule.

Our second speakers will be Oliver Armitage and Emil Hewage from Cambridge Bio-Augmentation Systems (CBAS). Founded in 2015, CBAS is developing the platform technology for the future of bionics, standardizing the connection between machines and the human nervous system for medical application. This means that amputees should be able to benefit from improved artificial limb movement whilst clinicians will be able to access real-time feedback on the biomechanics of their patients. Today, their tech is being trialled for advanced limbs, bioelectronic medicines and bionic organs.
