Meet and collaborate with Canadian companies (a Cambridge Network event)
Thirteen innovative Canadian SMEs from Alberta will participate in the symposium on Wednesday 28th November to meet potential R&D partners based in the UK. The German-Canadian Centre for Innovation and Research (GCCIR), as well as Innovate UK, will present the funding programmes available for UK and Albertan partners to fund the joint technology development projects.
Cambridge Network is helping to arrange the half-day matchmaking symposium, which will be held at the Møller Centre in Cambridge. It will include:
- presentations on the workings of the Alberta-Europe Technology Collaboration Fund, presentations on doing business in the various jurisdictions
- a keynote speech or presentation on a relevant innovation-related topic.
- presentation on Innovate UK funding opportunites by Brendan Vickers, Partnership Manager for North America.
- Lots of time for participants to continue with negotiations and discussions with the prospective partners that they have met.
The event includes morning coffee and a networking lunch.
Cambridge Network has detailed profiles of the visiting Canadian companies, which include information about each company and what they are looking for in terms of a collaboration partner.

Selected UK companies will then be invited to attend the symposium on November 28th in Cambridge.
The Canadian companies are in the following sector areas and are looking for:
- Baseband Technologies Inc. (looking to identify and partner with Blockchain developers/companies/institutions to develop an innovative GPS solution)
- BOREAL Laser Inc. (looking for partners interested in collaborating to develop the following gas sensing applications: Monitoring stack and duct emissions, safety perimeter monitoring, measuring greenhouse gas emissions, UAV gas sensing, and mid-infrared gas sensing)
- MRF Geosystems (looking to find partners in geospatial or related areas to develop: advanced high speed HTML5 vector map engine to support high concurrent connections, high volume and low latency LoRaWAN based indoor positioning technology, vision identification based indoor positioning, indoor augmented reality (AR) software engine/hardware, large-scale outdo scenes LiDAR rendering and modeling in Web Browsers, or high resolution 360 degree video real time streaming solutions)
- ZeroKey Inc. (seeking strategic partnerships with companies in the areas: building AR/VR content with support for their hardware platform, deployment of their AR/VR technology in unique and challenging applications, and integration of ZeroKey’s technology with accessory AR/VR devices)

- Innovative Trauma Care (seeking partners to develop a hemostatic glove)
- 48Hour Discovery (seeking collaboration partners to develop custom/precision microenvironments for cancer testing, or to innovate on existing drug discovery related technologies such as protein scaffolds, macrocycle technologies, or other post-translational modifications)
- Applied Quantum Materials Inc. (wants a joint venture to commercialise next generation products eg Li-ion battery materials, optical displays, lighting products, nanocomposite polymers and nanofabrication facilities using electron beam lithography)
- H3alth Technologies Inc. (looking to identify partners that are interested in participating in a collaborative technology demonstration involving an MVP for 3D body imaging specific to health and medical issues, as well as partners for software development around: commercial grade 3D software, automation, 3D segmentation and classification, anthropomorphic measurement software capabilities, model-based morphological alignment, non-linear and rigid registration, and data noise reduction.)
AUTOMATION AND ROBOTICS
- Rational Robotics (looking for a partner with companies that make or heavily use CNC machines in order to create a low cost machine tending robotic system)
- SPLICE Software Inc. (looking for a partner specifically within the wearable technology space. The technology should include the ability to monitor specific health data, including glucose levels, heart rate PLUS inbound audio recording)
- Quantum Silicon Inc. (looking to develop relationships with companies and research organisations to collaborate with on developing atomic scale fabrication technologies.)
- VisGrid Inc. (seeking to partner with property owners, managers and brokerage firms across Europe who are looking to innovate with their existing mapping and property analytics initiatives)
- PhaseSensors Inc. (looking for partners with experience in lubricant analysis and monitoring sensors, in hostile environment sensor packaging, and in infrared spectroscopy of oil samples to build an inline infrared spectroscopy system for monitoring large engine lubricant systems.)
A Cambridge Network founder member, the German-Canadian Centre for Innovation and Research (GCCIR) is a multilateral initiative for the development of German-Canadian, and more broadly European-Canadian, research and business relations. It is based in Edmonton, Alberta and is located in the TEC Edmonton Business Incubator. The Centre provides support for the exchange of information, development of networks, and the establishment and cultivation of collaborative partnerships in academia, business, and industry. In cooperation with the Alberta Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, the GCCIR operates the Alberta-Europe Technology Collaboration Fund, which aims to facilitate and support joint, innovative technology development projects between Albertan and European SMEs.
