This talk will explore aspects of commercialisation of graphene, once hailed as a ‘wonder material’. Our speakers, Simon Thomas, CEO of graphene production company Paragraf, and senior technology analyst, Richard Collins from independent research company IDTechEx will talk about what is happening now with the commercialisation of graphene and what may happen in the future.

Graphene’s potential is truly astounding, demonstrated by numerous application successes at laboratory level. However, delivering graphene technologies to point of use remains difficult.

Our first speaker, Simon Thomas, is CEO and co-founder of University of Cambridge spin-out, Paragraf.  The world of graphene is a land of great promise, if we can only achieve that most elusive of goals, commercial viability. Paragraf was created, not to deliver the golden material of theoretical science but instead a real world high-performance graphene that was reproducible, repeatable and most importantly scalable.  Through their technology development programs they strive to bring the products of tomorrow, today.  From chips to touchscreens and sustainable electronics, from efficient green energy production to biological, electrical, thermal or chemical sensors, Paragraf’s technique for graphene production delivers high quality graphenes rapidly at comparatively low cost. Simon will tell us how Paragraf came about and how the journey has been so far, and what comes next.

Our second speaker, senior technology analyst, Richard Collins is from independent market research company IDTechEx. Their research into graphene comes out of numerous events, interviews, masterclasses and major consulting projects giving an unrivalled insight into graphene, carbon nanotubes and non-graphene 2D materials. Graphene commercialization is making steady progress. In the early days graphene was oversold as a wonder material or a magic dust that would overnight revolutionize just about every industry. Naturally, with time, realism has set in. Richard will take us through IDTechEx’s research into the graphene market, its industrial capacity and increasing availability, affordability, revenues and volume sales and what the future may hold.
