Following the success of our previous events this year, we are delighted to bring you our final Cambridge Network, virtual jobs & careers fair of 2020. This event will take place on Friday the 20th of November from 11 am - 3.30 pm and will have a focus on early career vacancies and advice.

We have brought experts together to deliver helpful workshops offering tips on how to gain valuable work experience to kick start your career.

The Cambridge Network, recruitment team, along with presenting companies and recruitment/careers experts, will bring you a full day of all things recruitment.

Agenda

11 am - 11.10 am - Claire Angus, Head of Recruitment Gateway at Cambridge Network. Introduction and a run-through of the day's event.

11.10 am - 11.40 am - Make your CV irresistible to your future employer by adding short sharp relevant work experiences. A talk by Skye Willis of Workfinder

Students and graduates with little previous work experience on their CV's are far less likely to be successful during a selection process for graduate roles, long term placements, or a job. Workfinder gives students access to thousands of employers and opportunities at your fingertips. Join this session for a whistle-stop tour of what Workfinder is, how it works, and find out what opportunities are available that you can apply to immediately. Learn how to rapidly bulk your CV up with impressive and relevant experience to land the job you really want.

11.40 pm - 12.10 pm - Are you interested in a career in teaching? Have a degree and want to find out how to move to a Qualified Teacher Status?

The Cambridge Partnership is CMAT’s teacher training organisation known as a SCITT. (School Centred Initial Teacher Training). They provide routes to both QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and PGCE. They train in schools across the Eastern Region but are concentrate most heavily in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Join this session to find out how you progress in this field.

12.10 pm - 12.40 pm - Virtual lunch break

12.40 pm - 1.10 pm - Remote work experience session with Sue Keogh, founder of Sookio; Your chance to learn, create, and stand out.

20 students, 17 Zoom calls, 8 creative briefs, 7 team spotlights, and 4 training sessions. In August Cambridge business Sookio ran a week of remote work experience, taking students behind the scenes in a digital marketing agency and giving them the opportunity to create real content for their portfolio. In this session founder Sue Keogh will explain how they build the week's activities and encourage students to seek out similar opportunities to gain valuable experience - from a distance.

· case study of agency Bootcamp

· changing mindset of employers around work experience

· how to approach employers and make it easy for them

· how to stand out during the sessions

· what to look for in remote work experience

1.10 pm - 2.10 pm - a Combined workshop with Marc Rothera from Anglia Ruskin University and Charlotte Steggall, Early careers & Talent Acquisition Specialist at AVEVA. What does it take to be a successful apprentice?

The use of apprenticeships, as part of companies' early careers portfolio, is growing. However, for some people, the 'Apprentice' title indicates low-skill, low pay opportunities. In this session, Marc Rothera, from the Degrees at Work team at ARU, will outline some of the programs available at degree and postgraduate level and (by offering some accessible examples of how apprenticeships function) encourage delegates to consider how they can both present themselves as an ideal apprenticeship candidate to employers and prepare themselves to make the most of the opportunities presented by apprenticeships at this level.

Marc will be joined by Charlotte Steggall who will discuss apprenticeships not being the fallback option. Charlotte will speak about how to make the most out of your job applications, the training that AVEVA offers on their apprenticeships, and how to make your CV stand out. Marc and Charlotte will then open a Q&A for you to ask as many questions as you like about early careers.

2.10 pm - 2.20 pm - Virtual coffee break

2.20 pm - 2.50 pm Company presentation from Zifo

2.50 pm - 3.20 pm Company presentation from Marshall Centre

3.20 pm - Summary, final Q&A, and close
