The Cambridge Centre for Climate Change Mitigation Research (4CMR) is dedicated to finding paths forward to reduce the risks of climate change and improve sustainability while allowing for a vibrant global economy. This includes strategies for mitigation and adaptation, with a mix of public policies, market instruments and programmes affecting the decisions taken by individual actors and organisations.

We are both a centre with its own staff and a centre of activity within the  Department of Land Economy of the University of Cambridge , drawing on the broad intellectual perspectives and work of the faculty and students of that department which combines economics, law, planning, finance, environmental policy, spatial analysis, land and property management. Through our Affiliates programme, we also bring in the expertise of researchers from throughout the University of Cambridge and elsewhere.

4CMR focuses on research that examines the interactions between energy, environmental and economic (E3) systems as these can be used to improve global strategies for climate change mitigation and adaptation. At the heart of the work is a variety of integrated models built up over several decades of research in E3 modelling:

We use our advanced models of energy, environmental and economic (E3) systems to assess the impacts and effectiveness of climate change policies under well-defined scenarios of technology innovation, sustainable development and policy implementation to inform policy makers and the business community.
