Marshall, Sir Michael (President)
Michael Marshall has been Chairman and Group Chief Executive of the privately owned Company, Marshall of Cambridge (Holdings) Limited, since his father's retirement in 1989. Michael completed his National Service as an RAF pilot and, subsequently rowed for Jesus College, Cambridge and for England. He joined the Company in 1955 and was the architect of the expansion of the motor business which has become one of Europe's largest privately owned motor groups.
Under his leadership, Marshall Aerospace has diversified as a major world class high technology aerospace supplier, and Marshall Specialist Vehicles has become a high technology systems integrator and major contractor to the Government, providing 'Rapid Mobility Solutions'to the Armed Forces, and 'Homeland Defence' products to the OGC.
Michael still flies and has served the County as Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire since 1992. He previously served as High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire in 1988. He has chaired or served on a number of very successful fund-raising Committees for major charities in the Cambridge area, including the Prince's Trust, the Ely Cathedral Restoration Appeal and the British Olympic Association Appeal.He has been President of The Fund for Addenbrooke`s since its foundation in 2001. He is Honorary Air Commodore of No 2623 ( East Anglian ) Squadron, Royal Air Force Regiment. He has been Chairman of the City of Cambridge Squadron of the Air Training Corps since 1975 and, nationally, is the senior civilian member of The Air Cadet Council. He is also President of The Air League, having previously served as Chairman from 1998 to 2003. He is a Vice President of the Institute of the Motor Industry and of the Engineering Employer's Federation.
Michael was awarded the CBE in the 1999 Queen's Birthday Honours List and was knighted in the New Year’s Honours List announced in December 2009.
Founded in 1909 as an automobile company in Cambridge, Marshall entered the aviation business in 1929. The Marshall Group, still a privately owned company, is chaired by Alex Dorrian CBE since Sir Michael Marshall moved to the role of President in October 2016. Robert Marshall, the fourth generation of the Marshall family, became Group Chief Executive in 2012.
