Department for International Trade (DIT) is the government organisation that provides integrated support services for UK companies wishing to do business overseas and foreign businesses looking at the UK as an inward investment location.
In the East of England, DIT services are delivered through teams of International Trade Advisers (ITA's). The contract is delivered on behalf of the Government by Exemplas Trade Services Ltd (ETSL) in each county. They provide information and practical support both to businesses wishing to export for the first time, and experienced exporters looking to boost their trade overseas.
ITA's have a wealth of exporting, trading and business experience to offer companies in the region in addition to providing access to a vast network of contacts including DIT representatives in British Embassies, Consulates and High Commissions worldwide.
Of the 30 International Trade Advisers, some are sector specialists with expertise in Agriculture-Food, Creative & Media, Environment, Healthcare & Pharmaceuticals, ICT and Life Sciences. Our advisers are available to businesses across the region that require help with developing their international trade in markets around the world.
The range of services DIT offers includes market research, helping with introductions overseas and providing financial assistance to attend Trade Fairs. Programmes such as 'Pathway to Overseas Growth' provide new and inexperienced exporters with the training, planning and the ongoing support they need to succeed overseas through a series of assessment and skills based workshops.
The export success stories coming from the region vary dramatically, showing that if a product or service has international potential and the company has the determination to succeed, the opportunities are out there. Examples of success stories range from selling aromatherapy and beauty products in Hong Kong and Japan, supplying sparkling dog collars to the USA, sausages to ex-pats and tourists in Spain, kitchen design software to South Africa - DIT has helped them all.
DIT helps companies make informed decisions about exporting and provides them with valuable support to enable them to be successful in many different markets. If your company is a small start-up or well established international company, DIT is here to help.
