While the UK economy slowed in the first three months of the year, Cambridge News recently reported that Cambridge companies were busy adding over £9bn to the UK output. Representing year-on-year growth of 2.9%, this put the city ahead of Milton Keynes (2.8%) and third place Oxford (2.5%). As the fastest growing city in the UK we are interested in examining the business driving this growth.
Our exclusive leader’s forum explores this high growth environment and delves deeper into how companies who demonstrate exponential growth on a national and international scale, hope to maintain the agility of a smaller and more dynamic organisation.
The forum brings together speakers from; Taylor Vinters, who offer a global practice within the UK and Asia, highly commended at the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Awards, Horizon Discovery, who were named the ‘Fastest growing Life Sciences Company’ in the Deloitte Fast500 EMEA 2016 and SyndicateRoom recognised as the Best Investment Platform at the Growth Investor Awards two years running.
Speakers [Thought Leaders]
Ed Turner, Managing Partner - Taylor Vinters
Ed joined Taylor Vinters as a trainee solicitor in 1993. He continues to believe in the value of the organisation and its people 24 years later and Ed has been Managing Partner, and part of a dedicated leadership team with Matt Meyer, since 2008. Ed currently holds joint responsibility for the strategic leadership of the business and specific accountability for business operations, compliance, people and finance.
Dr Darrin Disley, CEO - Horizon Discovery
Darrin is a successful serial entrepreneur who has been involved in the start-up and growth of a number of business ventures. Since joining Horizon in 2007, Darrin has been instrumental in growing Horizon from a small start-up in Cambridge in the UK into a rapidly growing multinational leader in the life sciences. In this time, he has built a world-class management team, set a highly successful commercial and business strategy, led the company through several financing rounds including the Company’s highly successful IPO in 2014 (a new record for a life science company on the AIM market), and has driven the acquisitions of CombinatoRx, Sage Labs, Haplogen Genomics and Avvinity Therapeutics.
Gonçalo de Vasconcelos, Co-founder and CEO - Syndicate Room
A serial entrepreneur himself, Gonçalo is only too aware of the long path leading to a successful funding round. In September 2011 Gonçalo graduated with an MBA from Judge Business School, University of Cambridge and has since been developing his vision of how to help great entrepreneurs to fulfil their dreams and that vision is called "SyndicateRoom".
SyndicateRoom connects ambitious investors with the country’s most trailblazing companies. Started in 2013, SyndicateRoom has rapidly grown to have more than 100 high-growth businesses in its portfolio. By relentlessly focusing on the interests of private investors, SyndicateRoom has developed a trusted reputation and has been recognised as Best Investment Platform at the Growth Investor Awards two years running.
