CBCoVT: How Cambridge Cancer is rewriting the story for cancer patients

Join Professor Richard Gilbertson to hear how Cambridge's new Cancer Research Hospital aims to rewrite the story of cancer

CBC on Virtual Tour – How Cambridge Cancer is rewriting the story for cancer patients

Earlier this month, the government formally committed to fund a new Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital at Addenbrooke’s. This exciting news follows years of meticulous planning and hard work.

Join Professor Richard Gilbertson to hear how the new hospital aims to rewrite the story of cancer.

The new Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital will connect outstanding clinical expertise from Addenbrooke’s with world-class science across the University of Cambridge and our industrial partners – literally bringing bench to bedside – enabling patients to benefit from the latest innovations in early cancer detection, precision cancer medicine and treatment.

Uniting brilliant minds from across the world, outstanding healthcare and patients, the hospital will provide an unparalleled opportunity to detect cancer earlier and treat it more precisely – improving and saving the lives of patients.

Richard Gilbertson is Director of the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre at the University of Cambridge, Head of the Dept of Oncology and a Senior Group Leader researching children's cancers at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute.

Richard trained as a pediatric oncologist in the UK before moving in 2000 to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis USA where he served as Scientific and Comprehensive Cancer Center Director, Executive Vice President and Lillian R. Cannon Endowed Chair.

In August 2015, he moved back home to England to take up his current roles at the University of Cambridge.

His laboratory research is focused on understanding the link between normal development and the origins of cancer, particularly brain tumours. As one of the world’s leading experts in childhood brain tumours, he has led international efforts that have dramatically advanced knowledge of the biology of several of these cancers.

All registered participants will be sent the Zoom link in their order confirmation.

This event is part of the new series of the ‘CBC on Virtual Tour’ – the chance to learn more about the Cambridge Biomedical Campus where over 20,000 people at the forefront of the changing face of healthcare are working.

This event will be recorded and a link will be sent to all participants afterwards. It will also be posted on the CUHP website and the CUHP YouTube channel.
