CSaP Annual Lecture: Professor Dame Sally Davies

The 2020 CSaP Annual Lecture will be delivered by Professor Dame Sally Davies, Master of Trinity College, Cambridge and former Chief Medical Officer for England and Chief Medical Advisor to the UK Government.

Professor Dame Sally Davies FRS FMedSci became Master of Trinity College in October 2019. Previously, Dame Sally was the Chief Medical Officer for England, a post she took up in 2010. The Chief Medical Officer acts as the UK government’s principal medical adviser and the professional head of all directors of public health in local government. The CMO carries the rank of Permanent Secretary and advises the Secretary of State for Health on medical matters. She is also the professional head of the Department of Health’s medical staff and head of the Medical Civil Service.

Professor Davies also chairs the UK Clinical Research Collaboration, and is a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Advisory Committee on Health Research; the board of the Office for Strategic Co-ordination of Health Research; the International Advisory Committee for A*STAR, Singapore; and the Caribbean Health Research Council.

In addition, she advises many organisations on research strategy and evaluation - including the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council.

Professor Davies was previously Director General for Research in the Department of Health, where she was integral to the development the National Institute for Health Research.
