What's the event about?

It’s no secret that algorithms are increasingly governing large parts of our lives; from what we watch next on Netflix to how expensive our next set of flights will be.

In this talk we will focus on how, as machine learning makes these algorithms more powerful, they are increasingly being used to manipulate us in very undesirable ways, both accidentally and deliberately.

What questions will it answer?

What’s currently going on? How do these algorithms work? What will our society look like when they are smarter than we can possibly imagine? What can we all do to make sure the world of today and tomorrow has algorithms that align with our best values and not our worst tendencies?

With any luck, we will have a go at answering all these questions in a brain stretching 40 minutes!
