Free Employment & Immigration Webinars 23 April

A twice weekly webinar to provide a rolling update on the changes affecting employers across employment and immigration law.  The webinars are interactive and will be led by our specialists in UK employment and immigration law. Attendees will also have the opportunity to put their questions to the presenters and to download supporting factsheets and materials.

Topics

The content of the webinars will be shaped by the latest developments, with an initial focus on:

Right to Work checks

  • Explanation of the emergency measures introduced on 30th March which allow employers to recruit new staff during the crisis. What do the changes mean for your onboarding processes?

Workforce changes & redundancy

  • The implications of furloughing some but not all employees.
  • Do you still have to inform and consult collectively (with trade unions or employee representatives) whilst the emergency measures are in place?
  • How to minimise claims for unfair dismissal.
  • What are the alternatives to redundancy, including lay off and short-time working?

Tier 2 & 5 visa workers

  • The implications of furloughing visa holder employees.
  • Do you have to get permission from the Home Office or report via SMS?
  • Does the minimum SOC code threshold still apply if you reduce a visa holders salary and or hours?
  • Compliance regarding home working and working off-site.
  • Visa renewals: Home Office application processes whilst the visa centres remain closed.
  • Visa expiry: staff unable to depart from the UK or concerned that on arrival in their home country they will be enforced into quarantine.
  • Restricted COS allocations in March: what to do if you issued a COS but the new hire has been unable to travel to the UK because of travel restrictions?
  • Tier 5 visa holders: what to do if an employee is unable to depart to apply for their Tier 2 visa?
  • Tier 4 visa holders: what measures are in place to protect their visa status whilst the visa centres are closed?
  • Applying for your company’s annual COS allocation before the April deadline.
  • What to do if your Level 1 user is unwell and not able to operate the SMS?
