What need does the course address?

How do you rate your ability to write business English clearly, concisely and influentially?

Many managers and leaders we speak to find it difficult to admit that their writing is simply not up to scratch. Do any of the following sound familiar?

‘I went to a good school and we learned good writing there.’ (up to forty years ago).

‘These days, you can rely on technology; spelling and grammar checkers do 99 per cent of the work.’ (as well as producing ‘howlers’ that can instantly damage your credibility).

‘Well, English is a lot more casual now; people are a lot more forgiving.’

The truth is, people are not forgiving. They judge others on the smallest of observations: poor spelling, punctuation or grammar. Basic mistakes damage our credibility. Poorly structured reports aren’t read or have limited impact. This course has been set up to help anyone who writes as a part of their work; to write better, ensuring that their work is read, understood and acted upon.

Key Outcomes and Benefits

The Professional Business Writing course has two distinct modules, each normally run over one day:

Module One – Foundation, Structure and Clarity

This module focuses on the basics, ensuring that your writing doesn’t let you down. It goes on to look at how to structure your writing effectively, so that your readers find it easy to follow and understand.

Module Two – Style, Clarity and Influence

The second module builds on the first, with much more emphasis on ensuring that your writing has the impact you want. This module includes adapting your style and report structure to achieve your aims and reflect your audience.
