In October, employment agency Neaves & Neat based in Cambridgeshire surveyed businesses across the region to understand the future of the employment market into 2020. The survey revealed that a staggering 69% of businesses in the region have hired since March 2020 and a further 57% of businesses are now actively hiring or planning to hire in the next three months.
This is a huge vote of confidence for the region as businesses are backed by their employees to persevere into 2021 as many recover from a challenging year.
Looking further into the future, businesses in the region are predicting there will be an increase in demand for scientific, customer service and technology job roles into 2021 as 17% of businesses believe they will be recruiting for scientific roles very soon. However, the highest demand looks to be for those with customer service experience and technology specialists, with 27% of businesses looking to hire these skillsets too.
However, there is plenty more to be done. Many of those surveyed believed their employers could be doing more to support them working from home; including;
- “The need for increased communication between the business and employees”
- “Loss of company culture in a remote context" and
- “Lack of appropriate equipment, including chairs and computers. ”
