Respiratory is one of AstraZeneca’s main therapy areas. Our aim is to transform asthma and COPD treatment through inhaled combinations at the core of care, biologics for the unmet needs of specific patient populations, and scientific advancements in disease modification.

From a research perspective we work to understand, treat, modify and ultimately cure respiratory disease with an emphasis on four diseases with significant unmet medical need; asthma, COPD, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and chronic cough.

Our AstraZeneca Imperial Hub at Imperial College London has been growing since the start in early 2018. Here we deliver exciting and novel pharmacology investigating basic mechanisms of respiratory disease. We collaborate closely with colleagues at our Gothenburg Hub in Sweden, as well as our other co-operational sites.

To enable information sharing, smooth transitions and efficient ways of working we are now recruiting a Research Coordinator to our team. As well as the support of a major pharmaceutical company, colleagues in the hub interact with world-class scientists within Imperial. Therefore, this opening is a real chance to have the “best of both worlds” between academia and industry.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

In this role you will take full responsibility for operational aspects of the AstraZeneca Imperial Hub. You will be located at in Central London but drive co-ordinate interactions between the Imperial Hub and the research groups at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg as well as across the wider AZ community. Furthermore, you will ensure a smooth interface between the groups, managing logistics and timelines.

Example of tasks:

  • Co-ordinate experimental studies within the Hub and liaison with AstraZeneca, Gothenburg

  • Responsible for adherence to local safety regulations as well as compliance with UK regulations

  • Handle orders and logistics of compounds

  • Ensure right information is built by the right people and in the right format within set timelines for Drug Projects

  • Advise and support project teams to ensure consistent and effective manipulation, organization and sharing of information and data

  • Dedicatedly ensure correct and efficient communication and information platforms with external organizations and collaborators

  • Plan, organize and lead drug project team meetings including preparation of agendas, minutes, updating and follow up on action decision

  • Ensures efficient leadership and management of project information, quality of data and projection as well as integrity of supplied information

  • Oversee and advice on resources planning for project delivery

  • Lead the championing of new strategies for project management either as an authority or through project management

  • Lead or provide experienced technical support to regional or global teams

Essential Requirements

  • BSc or MSc in relevant field complemented by experience of working within Pharmaceutical Development

  • Proven strong administration skills including high technical level

  • Strong leadership capabilities with emphasis of people management and development

  • Excellent customer service and team working skills

  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills and successful in building relationships

  • Experience of effective working in multi-cultural teams

Desirable Requirements

  • Scientific degree within relevant field

  • Experience of Drug Discovery research

  • An understanding of Respiratory Diseases

  • In vivo pharmacology skills
