TWI has established an Innovation Network (TWIIN) that is world-recognised in the field of structural integrity. Our open innovation ecosystem brings together university researchers, TWI staff and industrial end users so that they can collaborate on research and technologies covering the full range of Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) 1-9.

This is an exciting role in a fast-paced team that is responsible for accelerating innovation to industry and bridging the skills gap. The role requires an individual who is driven, passionate and has the long term vision on addressing industrial challenges. The individual will be part of the TWIIN team, engaging with industry, academia and public funding bodies to meet the objectives and deliver on its vision.

TWI manages and operates the National Structural Integrity Research Centre (NSIRC), a centre for postgraduate industry led study.  The individual will be responsible for delivery of research programme(s) funded by industrial sponsors in collaboration with academic institutions.

Main duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Engage with sponsors and potential collaborators to identify technological challenges
  • Identify challenges in major engineering sectors and map the delivery in collaboration with TWI departments and customers
  • Leverage multiple projects in research and development of commercial products and services
  • Write annual review reports to sponsors
  • Contribute to building new partnerships with proposal submissions
  • Engage with universities and independent research organisations and negotiate partnership agreements
  • Represent TWI and its sponsor in national and international events to disseminate the impact of Industrial research
  • Identify funding opportunities and support the delivery of applications
  • Identify, negotiate and obtain internal and external funding required to deliver research projects
  • Mentoring, guidance and support to NSIRC postgraduate industrial research projects
  • Provide technical support to recruitment of PhD students
  • Engage with TWI technical leads to develop PhD research projects
  • Conducting themselves in line with TWI’s values of teamwork, innovation, taking responsibility, customer focus, adaptability and respect.


  • A higher education degree in an engineering subject

The following experience would be beneficial but not essential:

  • Working in a multi-disciplinary team contributing to team deliverables  
  • Project management with focus on budgeting, planning and risk management   
  • Writing professional reports and operational instructions 
  • Negotiating with customers and facilitating technical meetings
