Network Engineer - Juniper - Operations Centre

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Network Engineer based at our Cambridge Operations Centre.

Our Operations Centre is responsible for the timely and efficient defect rectification of various network equipment, circuits and other services that make up the GÉANT service portfolio. In this role you will make configuration changes, provide NOC to NOC support, supervise maintenance and co-ordinate with other support organisations as needed. The role requires you to undertake troubleshooting to rectify problems and restore service within given Service Level Targets.   This is a second line engineering role in an established and high-profile NOC that covers the whole of Europe.

What experience and skills are needed?

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate a genuine passion for Ethernet and TCP/IP networking technologies and protocols, and wishes to acquire experience in optical transmission systems.  Ideally, you are working in a technical environment within a Service Provider or within a similar IT function.


You will need a good working knowledge of the BGP protocol along with proven practical experience using it.  You will also have a good understanding of TCP/IP, SNMP, network management and network troubleshooting methodologies.


A degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering or Security would be preferable along with other industry certifications such as JNCIS/CCNP (or equivalent experience). Experience with Juniper or Cisco products would be highly advantageous. 


It is critical that you enjoy working collaboratively as part of a team and enjoy the challenge of solving problems in a technical support environment. You'll need to be articulate, clearly spoken and able to deliver telephone support in a friendly & professional manner.


Ideally, you will live within commuting distance of Cambridge already, however, people wishing to relocate will also be considered.


Shift working

In this role you will work on a rolling shift rota made up of the following shifts: Early (0600-1415), Late (1145-2000) and Day (0900-1730). There will also be some 'on call' work - approximately 1 week in 6 of overnight cover, and 1 week in 3 of weekend cover (paid on a per shift basis).
