Linux Systems Administrator (+Network)

As a Linux Systems Administrator, you will work as part of the Infrastructure support team to provide break/fix and refinements to existing solutions, whilst also contributing to technology roadmaps and working on system enhancement. The role holder should strengthen current IT practices and maintain a culture of sharing and collaboration.  An understanding of emerging technologies and approaches will be essential to enhance the department and deliver value

The role requires the application of a wide range of skills, knowledge & experience, in order to ensure critical IT services continue to operate at expected levels & are appropriately scaled to meet demand
 

You will:

  • Provide business-as-usual / break-fix support for solutions deployed within Sepura
  • Ensure requests logged via the Service Desk are completed based on impact and priority
  • Deploy, Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to the LINUX infrastructure, WIFI, LAN and firewalls
  • Proactively communicate the status, plan of action(s), and resolution(s) of issues
  • Report on the health of IT services
  • Contribute to root cause analysis activities
  • Research products & service to help define service roadmaps and contribute to the IT enhancement backlog
  • Participate in root cause analysis activities

The candidate filling this position will have, or be able to obtain, UK Security Clearance

Experience

Essential:

  • Minimal five years' experience in IT Networking role

Skills

Essential:

  • Significant experience in technical administration roles covering Hardware and Software
  • Deep understanding of LINUX server administration (NIS, DHCP, DNS, Email, X windows)
  • Experience of scripting / automation languages
  • Network design and implementation (LAN & WAN)
  • Administration of Cisco switch infrastructure.
  • Access control & Threat mitigation
  • Wireless infrastructure (preferably Aruba)
  • Strong technical problem solving skills and experience

Desirable:

  • Administration of Cisco IP Telephony
  • Management for CheckPoint firewall technologies
  • Supporting NetApp storage (NAS / SAN)
  • Backup solutions BackupExec / Veeam / NetVault
  • Proxy servers and web filtering
  • Dell Server hardware and system management tools
  • Understanding of Industry trends and emerging threats
  • Practical experience of Cyber Essentials and / or ISO27001
  • Experience of interpreting information from security analysis tools
  • Experience of deploying and managing cloud services
  • Two-factor authentication
  • Practical experience of VMware
  • Windows server administration

Qualifications

Essential:

  • A-Level/HND Qualification

Desirable:

  • ITIL qualification (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) or equivalent IT Service Management certification or experience
