Assistant Accountant

Based in our Cambridge office, the Assistant Accountant manages the day-to-day transactions, predominantly being Purchase Ledger and Banking, for all funds and corporate entities within the Amadeus Group.

The role is critical in allowing the Group and Fund Accountants to prepare quarterly accounts.

Communication is key to the role as you will manage both internal and external relationships associated with the key responsibilities.


  • Coding and entering of purchase invoices, petty cash claims and company credit card statements. This includes obtaining appropriate sign-off on all invoices (on Sage)
  • Maintaining the banks of all entities in the group by regularly posting and coding bank payments and receipts (on Sage and AltaReturn). For Investments entered onto Alta this will involve inputting the payment and working with the Accountant to source and validate Equity Type, Pre & Post Money, Quantity of Shares, Amount in Currency and Date of Investment
  • Reconciling the banks for monthly sign off within 2 working days of the month end
  • Preparation of supplier payment runs and processing the payments using our internet banking system
  • Monitoring and checking interest payable/received from the banks on a quarterly basis
  • Filing of purchase invoices and bank statements – including electronically filing purchase invoices and Barclays.net report
  • Collating copies of invoices and expenses which relate to costs to be recharged to Portfolio Companies and Funds on a monthly basis
  • Creation of sales invoices and reconciling the Nominal Accounts quarterly
  • Chasing debtors when necessary
  • Weekly and monthly Sage back-ups
  • Organising meeting with Accounts Team and processing decisions re paying management fees on a quarterly basis
  • Checking receipts from investors on drawdowns and letting appropriate accounts team member know of any late payers (then decide who will chase)
  • Updating cash balances in Cash Model and monitoring cash balances in the funds to place appropriate cash balances on deposit.  



This role would ideally suit candidates either at the early stage of their finance career, looking to gain experience in a venture capital company whilst completing their formal studies (AAT or CIMA) or those more commercially experienced and part-qualified, perhaps returning to work after a career break and/or looking for a role that offers a greater work/life balance. We would consider full-time applicants or those wanting 4 days per week.

  • Minimum A-level qualified or equivalent.  Ideally part-qual AAT
  • Excellent understanding of numbers and basic finance skills/interest
  • Excellent grasp of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel       
  • Knowledge of finance systems and Sage particularly beneficial.  Ability to quickly learn new finance/IT systems and work with them
  • Great communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A team-player, friendly and personable able to build relationships at all levels
  • Able to work on own initiative, with little supervision when familiar with the role
  • Commercially focused, with a background in a small hi-tech or finance company preferable
