Finance Accounting Manager

The financial accounting team is responsible for the accounting records of the Group’s trading entities and timely and accurate delivery of any related financial information. The primary purpose of the role is to lead the team and ensure its responsibilities are met through driving an appropriate balance of quality and efficiency.

Become part of the team

Based at our Global Technology & Innovation Centre in Royston, this role heads up the financial accounting team that sits within the Financial Shared Services (team of 40+).

The financial accounting team is responsible for the accounting records of the Group’s trading entities and timely and accurate delivery of any related financial information. The primary purpose of the role is to lead the team and ensure its responsibilities are met through driving an appropriate balance of quality and efficiency.

Manage a team of 9 individuals at various stages in their career

  • Effectively manage, motivate and develop the financial accounting team
  • Supervise & review performance of three direct reports
  • Set challenging annual goals and objectives, giving direction and coaching as necessary towards achievement
  • Encourage team to build strong, collaborative relationships outside the Finance shared service

Ownership for delivering timely and accurate monthly financial accounting for the Group’s trading entities

  • Monitor and control the team’s monthly entity close process in-line with the overall group reporting timetable
  • Review monthly accounts prepared by team ensuring familiarity with and tracking of balance sheet issues.
  • Ensure accounting adheres to applicable reporting standards and Group policies, proactively investigating unusual transactions in conjunction with the group finance team.
  • Maximise efficiency and effectiveness of processes by maintaining a continuous improvement program; whilst not compromising robust internal control environment.
  • Manage intercompany recharge and similar processes, ensuring any issues are promptly resolved
  • Directly responsible for the financial accounting of a small number of the trading entities with accounting assistant support

Manage audit and local statutory filings for all trading entities

  • Work with local accounting services provider and audit teams to maintain compliance with current local statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor progress of accounts preparation, audit and filing of financial statements of trading entities
  • Ensure thorough review of draft accounts ahead of audit to ensure audit efficiency
  • Support corporate tax team with preparation of in-country tax reporting

Maintain a strong, robust financial control environment with the financial accounting team

  • Maintain a strong, robust control environment in line with internal governance and external regulatory requirements
  • Ensure that all processes within the financial accounting team are standardised, clearly documented and complied with
  • Ensure reconciliations are performed in-line with agreed frequency and any reconciling items cleared on a timely basis

 Be a strong leader, inspirational and collaborative

  • Lead by example in providing service excellence to both internal and external customers
  • Drive high standards in team output embedding a right-first-time culture

What we're looking for

  • Qualified accountant – ACA / CIMA / ACCA with commercial experience
  • Previous team management experience is desirable
  • Experience as a financial accountant in a multinational organisation with a proven track record of achievement and success
  • A proactive, highly organised self-starter able to hold others to account
  • Ability to prioritise and manage accurate delivery to required deadlines
  • Happy to be in the detail but also able to step back and see the bigger picture
  • History of identifying and delivering change/improvement.
  • Strong decision making skills to answer technical and practical questions in a timely manner as well as provide solutions to issues arising
  • Strong communication and influencing skills; having the confidence to challenge senior management
  • Strong current UK GAAP and IFRS knowledge and ability to apply practically to real accounting issues
