C Programmer, Software Developer

The Altair Ellexus team is looking for a C Developer to help create, shape and test our existing and upcoming products. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a growing company currently developing new technology.

The role

Ellexus has recently been acquired by Altair and are going to be servicing a much wider customer base. We make I/O profiling tools for high performance computing and machine learning. Our customers use our products in the cloud and in on-prem super computers. We work with customers around the world in the semiconductor industry, in life sciences, cancer research and many other sectors.

Our products have a C back end that intercepts library calls into the GNU C library. The successful candidate will form part of a team responsible for extending the functionality of our existing software, supported by a team of experts in Linux and program interaction. Day-to-day tasks could include bug fixing, optimising performance, designing a new feature or helping a customer with a deployment.

As a small team there are lots of ways to get involved with all aspects of what we do. The Ellexus team are based in Cambridge, UK although the role is open to people around the world. The Ellexus development team report to Dr Rosemary Francis who founded Ellexus. She will continue to oversee the Ellexus team in her new role as Chief Scientist at Altair within the PBS works group.

Person specification

We are looking for a candidate with a good technical degree in a relevant area or with relevant work experience. We value applicants with Master’s degrees or PhDs in related areas although this is not a requirement for the role.

The successful candidate will have some experience in the following areas:

  • C programming
  • Some knowledge of the Linux GlibC
  • Familiarity with working in a Linux environment

Candidates who have experience working in HPC with knowledge of sceduler technology or distributed file systems like lustre or GPFS and candidates who have been programming at the GlibC or kernel level will enjoy being able to apply their skills, but this is not a requirement of the role because training will be offered to those who need it. We also welcome any applicants who enjoy giving presentations, leading teams or have experience working with customers, but that is also not a requirement for this role.
