The Opportunity

The Speechmatics Product Team helps shape the services, products and features that will be used by partners and customers who need speech technology to meet their business needs. It is important to us that the deliverables we provide are easy to integrate and consume into the wider solutions offered by these partners, and as a result, a detailed understanding of their business and needs is essential.

You will also be instrumental in identifying the real-world business problems of our customers and helping them to meet their challenges by translating them into products, services and features that will delight them. You will be required to use your skills as a product manager to balance competing prioritisation requirements.

This role not only requires close relationships with customers but also with our Engineering, Sales and Marketing teams to ensure that all are aligned. You will be joining a small Product team as we work with our customers to grow our product and feature portfolio. You will need to be a team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on rapidly moving research developments into products.

Prior experience of speech recognition is desirable, but not required. Speechmatics has a team of speech recognition engineers who will collaborate on all speech related projects and help you understand any specialist knowledge required. This will include opportunities to participate in internal training courses aimed at teaching machine learning theory and practice. Key Responsibilities

  • Ownership for implementing product vision through thought leadership, roadmap definition and market learnings. Getting involved in operation and execution of the product development process supporting:
    • Sub-strategies for things like language development
    • Ownership of the product throughout its lifecycle
  • Line management for a small team of product owners to ensure engagement within engineering teams and wide understanding of customer need to ensure correct value in delivery.
  • Identifying and executing on continuous improvement in processes to support the product development functions.
  • Use case analysis and feature definition to align with GTM marketing strategy. Define requirements and ensure they are communicated throughout the org to ensure cross functional alignment.
  • Value realisation.
  • Defining new features and learning from customers.
  • Evangelise the product internally and externally.
  • Be recognised as a leader in the business and build relations with business stakeholders. Represent the voice of the customer to counterparts in other functions of the business.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and third parties to assess and establish partnerships.
  • Be the recognised expert in the business on your product, the market, relevant technology, and the competition.
  • Perform product demos to customers and develop relationships in key clients.
  • Continue professional and technical education, attending workshops, seminars, etc.


  • Passionate about product management and technology and the customers within the markets the products are used.
  • Experience in product management (ideally 2+ years in a start-up/scaleup environment)
  • Adaptability, dealing with and executing within a constantly evolving environment creating and supporting healthy challenges within and across functions.
  • Quickly learn technologies to be effective.
  • Able to communicate with internal and external stakeholders across different functions and levels.
  • Be able to dive into details but remain focused on the big picture.
  • Think on your feet especially with respect to customer conversations.

  • Previous experience of managing small teams.

  • Excellent teamwork skills, written, verbal and presentation communication skills
  • Demonstrable success in defining and managing products and features.
  • Understanding of B2B products, the way customers interact and support products within these models.​
  • Experience of working within the call centre marketplace or media companies or other marketplaces that have involved the use of voice-based communication.
  • No previous experience of speech is required but some experience of working with machine learning would be a distinct advantage.
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience with using Jira and/or product management tools.
  • An interest in languages and linguistics
  • Familiarity with deploying products though hosted and on-premises models.
