Finance Manager / Controller

IDTechEx provides independent business intelligence and consulting on emerging technologies. Founded in 1999, IDTechEx has grown into a global company with bases in the UK, Germany, USA and Japan with customers in 80 countries. Our products include market research reports, subscriptions, consulting, marketing services, events and training.

This role will play a leading and fundamental part in the financial operations of the company, reporting to the CEO. The company employs approximately 50 people globally and the candidate will also have responsibility for one direct report.

It will be a very hands on role and so we are looking for someone who is prepared to manage day-to-day processes as well as work alongside the wider business and the Board to support in all financial elements.

You will be a self-starter who is comfortable working autonomously from day one. The role is currently home based, with reasonable proximity to Cambridge for when office working resumes.

The successful candidate should be able to fully support the needs of the business in managing and filing financial appropriate returns in addition to delivering fast and accurate financial reporting.

Key aspects of the role will be payroll, management accounts production, VAT returns, audit preparation, PSA, international accounting management, compliance (contracts, legal).

Key Responsibilities

  • Full production of management accounts on a monthly basis (consolidating data from four affiliated companies in four countries)
  • Presentation of financial results and position to internal staff as and when required
  • Ad-hoc management reports as required (variance analysis, project profitability, etc.)
  • Payroll administration (for staff in all country locations) and PSA/P11D reporting
  • Quarterly VAT returns
  • Day-to-day bookkeeping and maintenance of ledgers.
  • Monitoring (and, if required, implementation) of internal controls
  • Staff expenses
  • Bank and currency revaluations, bank account management
  • Tax returns in subsidiary countries, with support from local accountants
  • Liaising with external stakeholders (e.g. bank, international subsidiary accountants, auditors, insurers) on a regular basis
  • Expenditure control
  • Audit compliance and management of yearly audit
  • Fixed Asset management
  • Financial statements budgeting & forecasting
  • Contracts, purchase order and terms review
  • Line management (currently 1 assistant accountant)
  • Some US accounting and tax experience preferable
  • Liaising with stakeholders across the organisation
  • Foreign subsidiary finance, contracts and insurance interactions
  • Proposal and implementation of necessary systems and procedures
