In addition to standard Patent Analyst work, the role will involve the development and execution of large IP projects such as patent portfolio re-evaluations, and process improvements, for example, finding alternative cloud-based searching platforms to meet SCC’s evolving IT requirements, and guiding projects through our project stage gate process from an IP perspective.

You will have an excellent academic record and be educated to degree level in Chemistry or Biochemistry and either have an MSc in Intellectual Property or have experience of working in a corporate IP team as a Patent Analyst.  Alternatively, applicants with a PhD in Chemistry or Biochemistry with a strong technical background, involving some awareness of patents, who are looking for a career in the IP profession will be considered as training can be provided.

Practical experience with a major patent related database, the ability to perform patent searches and interpret results for internal clients and IP colleagues is preferred but is not essential.  You will have a keen interest in becoming familiar with new technologies and be creative, organised, with an aptitude for thinking about IP from a business perspective and synthesising data from multiple sources to make actionable recommendations to internal clients. You will be self-motivated, with excellent team-working and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with technical, IP and business colleagues.
