The Position
One of three new roles reporting directly to the CEO and created to fuel the success of geo’s next generation Whole Home Optimisation systems, the CTO owns geo’s technology vision and roadmap for the medium and long term and is responsible for exploring and evaluating viable new technologies and for working with the Chief Analytics Officer (CAO) and Chief Devices Officer (CDO) to define how those technologies are embedded in geo’s future development roadmap. The scope of the role includes:

  • Developing a comprehensive view of the current and emerging technologies applicable to geo’s development space in the 2 - 5 year horizon

  • Creating and maintaining a comparative ‘strengths and weaknesses’ view of all relevant technologies, garnering feedback from the wider business to optimise that view

  • Working with the Senior Management Team and particularly the CAO and CDO to set geo’s vision of where its technology will be in 3 years’ time; and

  • Establishing and maintaining a 3-year technology roadmap to achieve that vision

  • Providing strategic technology input and support for the CAO and CDO in the development of their platform and product roadmaps and delivery plans

  • Documenting and being able to communicate and evangelise geo’s technical vision internally as well as with customers and markets

  • Establishing and maintaining an innovation roadmap containing a list of proposed and commissioned projects, including target technology, customers, project value and cost; and

  • Implementing and driving 1-2 innovation projects from the roadmap at any point to demonstrate target capabilities

This is a broad technical management role responsible for line management, architecture development, technical strategy, and, working with the CEO and wider senior management team, the timely and high-quality development and support of geo’s technical vision and architecture.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of leadership in a consumer-focused technology environment and extensive experience of team-working at a senior level. They will have a broad technical background, ideally with relevant communications, cloud and device development experience, and will bring the best of each discipline to contribute to the creation of a compelling technology vision.

The candidate will be able to evidence previous success in operating in complex consumer technology environment, including examples of how the individual has:

  • Assessed the viability of existing and emerging technologies and their business applicability

  • Demonstrated a clear understanding of leading-edge IoT and cloud technologies

  • Worked with peers to establish a plan to employ new technologies in a development plan

  • Engaged with the wider business on technical progress and managed the information interface with non-technical teams to allow core technical decisions to be made

  • Encouraged interaction between different development disciplines to help create, implement and manage medium to long term development plans

  • Identified opportunities for technically led business innovation and established/led innovation proof-of-concept exercises to validate the innovation concerned

  • Created compelling documentation and engaged with stakeholders to explain and evangelise technology choices and highlight the business value of those choices
