Data Manager

The Data Manager will lead the ResearchFish Interfolio Data Services team and be responsible for maintaining and automating the harvesting, curation and quality of research impact data. The post holder will need to be able to develop an understanding of what the data should look like, analyse patterns in the data to identify potential problems (proactively or in response to a question), and suggest solutions and/or implement those solutions. The post holder will also need to oversee the cleaning/matching of data to external unique identifiers.

This individual will be focussed on Researchfish but also part of a broader data focussed group within Interfolio. Researchfish is an online platform which enables researchers to easily and quickly report the outputs, outcomes and impacts of the research they do to their stakeholders. The post holder will also work closely with the client facing teams to ensure the best possible service and value to our clients.

 

The ideal candidate will have a thirst for knowledge and have the ability to spot patterns and problems in the database through their own analysis and understanding. The position of Data Manager is a position based out of the Cambridge (UK) office.*

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop an in depth understanding of the data model for the Researchfish system, its broader data set, and available tools
  • Ongoing identification of risks and opportunities for improvement and workload reduction; including identification, investigation, task modification, measurement, and documentation
  • Understand how the researchfish data is used by customers; generate analyses, dashboards and establish best practice processes
  • Manage and document data procedures and processes; keeping them in line with our target metrics and KPIs
  • Make use of existing ETL data tools and implement new software tooling in order to reduce manual operations and to ensure consistency and accuracy of data going forwards
  • Follow due process used to raise, work on, manage and track the resolution of issues discovered with the data or the Researchfish platform
  • Work with the Data Council, the Chief Analyst, other senior stakeholders across the business;
  • Provide supervision to the Junior Data Analyst

 

Requirements

  • An analytical mind and inclination for problem-solving with an ability to recognize challenges and develop solutions to solve technical problems
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficiency in data extraction, manipulation and analysis
  • Excellent MS Excel skills
  • 2+ yrs SQL experience, preferably with MySQL/ MS SQL or similar
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in quantitative field
  • Proven ability to work cross functionally with product, engineering and services teams and build relationships with multiple stakeholders

 

Desirable

  • Familiarity with the international scholarly data ecosystem (e.g. Crossref, ORCID, Datacite, PubMed, etc.)
  • Python/Php/R experience (or equivalent)
  • Customer facing experience
  • ETL experience (Matillion, Informatica or similar)
