Development Scientist

We are looking for a Development Scientist to join us at our site in Royston near Cambridge.

Due to unprecedented growth, Sartorius in Royston are looking to appoint an experienced and confident Scientist to further strengthen our superb design and development team.

You will be joining a multidisciplinary team of researchers and engineers to work on developing new and innovative products for our exceptionally well regarded line of products. You will be leading and advising on the development of automated bioprocessing equipment, designing and executing experimental test plans and reviewing, analysing and discussing improvements with the rest of the prototype engineering team.

This is a senior scientific position and requires someone with the ability to both lead and communicate efficiently and effectively with a broad range of colleagues from other specialist disciplines. The position covers project management, production management, design elements and working closely with end clients for bespoke or unique instruments.

This position is based at our site in Royston and boasts varied and interesting work alongside a generous salary package.

About the position:

  • Designing new experiments and test procedures, experiment execution and results analysis

  • Acting in concert with design specialists

  • Working closely with End Clients, acting as translator for their requirements

  • Having a broad spectrum of input within a design and testing team

  • Sourcing and preparation of materials for testing automated systems

  • Execution of biological/ biochemical based assays

  • Preparation of data and reports

  • Participation in design reviews with peers and other teams

 About you:

  • PhD/EngD in Bioprocessing, Biology, Biochemical Engineering or similar

  • Experienced in aseptic laboratory technique and mammalian culture is ideal

  • Ideally experienced in using stirred tanks or other forms of bioreactor

  • Understanding of bioprocessing industry is preferred

  • High level of laboratory competence

  • Able to analyse complex technical data

  • Project management skills

  • Creative thinking; analytical and logical problem solving

  • Able to work independently and as a part of a team
