Electrical & Electronics Engineer

We are looking for an Electrical and Electronics Engineer to join our team in Royston. You will have experience of electrical and electronic design of instruments in the biotechnology industry.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced engineer to join the Sartorius Product Development team in Royston. The team work on new developments and lifecycle updates across the Ambr® product portfolio. To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate expertise in the electrical and electronic design of complex automated electro-mechanical equipment.  

It is our intention that the successful candidate will become the principal point of contact for electrical and electronic engineering activities across the entire Sartorius, Royston product range. In this capacity, you will work cross-functionally with the Sartorius business both in Royston and internationally.

What you will accomplish together with us:

  • Delivering electrical designs to provide machine control functionality for new products

  • Working with our team of electronics engineers, delivering PCBA designs to provide machine control functionality for new products

  • Overseeing the development testing of electrical and electronic designs

  • Taking responsibility for the electrical engineering designs of existing products

  • Providing support to the manufacturing team for all electrical and electronic designs in your domain of responsibility

  • Designing machinery safety circuits that meet relevant global directives, regulations and standards

  • Overseeing the development testing and commissioning of machinery safety circuits

  • Creating and managing the documentation associated with the electrical safety of machinery

  • Providing training and support to the manufacturing team and the field service team to ensure that electrical and machinery safety tests are carried out correctly

  • Creating and maintaining bills of materials for all electrical designs

  • Providing pro-active contribution to development projects by working collaboratively in cross-functional teams

  • Defining and communicating interface specifications and agreed protocols to project teams

  • Collaborating with third parties to ensure that externally purchased electrical and electronic systems are designed to Sartorius standards

  • Contributing to project design reviews involving the wider product development team

What will convince us:

  • A 2:1 degree in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering or equivalent; a masters degree and Chartered Engineer status is preferred but not essential

  • Experience of the electrical and electronic design of instruments and devices used in the biotechnology industry or equivalent hi-tech applications

  • Knowledge of safety circuits, PCBA design and aspects of machine control design

  • A highly collaborative approach with the ability to work in teams in a matrix-based international organisation

  • Capability to work to fixed deadlines

  • Good project management skills

  • A high level of organisation with excellent attention to detail

  • A keen desire to learn and develop within our growing organisation
