Engineer / Senior Engineer

Sphere Fluidics Limited is an established Life Sciences company, which is developing new instrumentation systems for the biopharma industry.  Ambitious company expansion plans mean that we are now looking for talented individuals to join our Physics and Engineering team.


We are looking to recruit engineers / physicists to join a multidisciplinary team developing complex instrumentation.  If you enjoy working at the forefront of science, have proven technical ability in design, construction and testing of mechanical, optical, fluidic and electronic systems, this vacancy will be of interest to you.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Relevant degree (BSc, MEng) in engineering or physics from a leading university or a deep background in instrumentation development.
  • Postgraduate experience, either through relevant industrial experience, or via a postgraduate degree (e.g. MSc, PhD) from a leading university.
  • Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and physical principles.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic and mechanical systems.
  • Interfacing software with sensors and actuators, including instrument control and data capture (e.g. C/C++, LabVIEW™, MATLAB).


Expertise in at least one of the following:

  • Optical design.
  • Microfluidics.
  • Mechanical CAD (SolidWorks).
  • PCB design.


In addition, we will favour candidates who have:

  • Proven ability to design, build, test & troubleshoot.
  • Ability to work in a small team to tight timescales and with strict attention to detail.
  • Ability to plan your workload and exercise good time management.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent verbal, documentation and communications skills.
