Head of Cloud Development

As Head of Cloud Development you will lead the development, deployment and management of our cloud infrastructure and services to deliver high quality, and innovative customer applications.

Under your leadership and guidance your department consisting of Front End and Back End Developers, DevOps Specialists and Software Test Engineers, where you will oversee the creation of cloud-based solution that enable our customers deep insights into protein-protein interactions through our laboratory instrumentation, data analytics and workflow tools and machine learning algorithms. Working alongside UX specialists, computational biologists and data scientists as well as the instrumentation development team your focus will be the creation of leading-edge customer facing cloud solutions and services for customers working in the life-science industry.


This is an opportunity for an experienced manager to contribute to the development of highly innovative technologies within life science research and clinical diagnostics. You will have experience in leading an innovative development team in digital service design, guiding the development and deployment of infrastructure and customer solutions in cloud technologies, and Agile software development processes.


Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Building, leading, managing and mentoring the cloud software development team
  • Develop secure and reliable enterprise-scale software solutions supporting the needs of our customers, internal laboratory services and scientific development teams
  • Developing the cloud architecture and infrastructure strategies in line with growing business needs and business models
  • Working with the senior management team, establish and deliver a roadmap of high-quality, customer focused, software solutions maintaining operational excellence and ownership for the cloud services and solutions developed
  • Work alongside the data science and machine learning applications team to integrate and deploy innovative customer driven product solutions
  • The ability to understand our customer technical needs, translate these into product requirement, and to help build new customer relationships and identify new business opportunities
  • Management, deployment and continuous improvement of cloud operations, DevOps and infrastructure in conjunction with our IT team and customer support teams
  • Training of internal users, sales team and customer services on the latest functionality of the cloud services and solutions


  • Work with direct reports, peer group and executive management to build a class leading cloud software development organisation

You've Got This Covered:

  • 10 Years professional experience in software development and delivery ideally with some exposure to scientific instrumentation or software tools for the life science / clinical diagnostic industry
  • 3 Years experience in leading a team in digital service design and implementation
  • Experience in developing full stack applications, data science and machine learning processes
  • A thorough understanding of computing systems, software architecture, data structures and algorithms
  • An understanding of the requirements for FDA 21 CFR Part 11, ISO 27001 compliance
  • Familiarity with working within a Quality Management Systems including ISO 9001 / ISO 13485
  • Familiarity with Agile software development processes
  • Ability to work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, and interact with customers when needed
  • Track record demonstrating excellent competence, integrity, and communication skills

  • This role reports to our Chief Technology Officer
  • This is a flexible, hybrid role; working from home and in the office in Cambridge
  • Preference will be given to those candidates whom already have UK Right to Work status
