Mechanical Engineer - Product Development

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Royston. A degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent is required; masters or PhD are desirable.

At our site in Royston we invent, design and manufacture a range of automated cell culture and fermentation systems for the bio-pharma, regenerative medicine and industrial biotechnology sectors.

Our engineering team currently has an immediate position for a Mechanical Engineer. You will be working on all aspects of hardware design in the areas of new product introduction, product updates and continuous improvement.

This is an interesting and challenging role that will enable the successful candidate to develop their mechanical engineering career in the life sciences industry.

This position is based at our site in Royston (near Cambridge).

What you will accomplish together with us:

  • Responsible for all aspects of hardware design, from initial concept through to production release

  • Working collaboratively with engineers from other disciplines and wider development teams

  • Leading and participating in design reviews to ensure that designs meet their required specifications

  • Collaborating with the Build Team, Design Team and our supply chain to realise engineering design solutions

  • Supporting continuous process improvements to help ensure that programme targets are met

  • Ensuring an effective hand-over of products to the Manufacturing Group

  • Working in line with our engineering processes to ensure appropriate quality is designed into all products

  • Liaising with potential customers and the internal Product Management team to define detailed system specifications for new product development

What will convince us:

  • A degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent; masters or PhD are desirable

  • Knowledge of systems engineering - experience of conceptualising and developing complex systems containing hardware, electronics and software

  • Ideally, previous experience in biotech or the medical devices industry

  • Experienced in development of consumable products for use in automated equipment

  • Knowledge of robotics, materials handling and mechanism design

  • Capable of taking designs from prototype through to established manufactured products

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Knowledge of FMEA and DFMA processes

  • Strong commercial acumen

  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team

  • Capable of working in international setting

  • Strong communication skills
