Senior UX Designer

The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) is looking for a Senior UX Designer. This is a very exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate UX Designer to join our newly established Digital Design team within the Technology Directorate.


As a Senior UX Designer you and your team will be responsible for creating brilliantly simple, innovative and intuitive digital experiences. You will be a champion for user needs and will advocate across the organisation for a user-centred design approach to solving problems. You will seek out and utilise the customer insight and feedback needed to ensure the continual improvement of the RSC platforms.


As a senior member in the Digital Design team, you will be fully involved in creating a UX strategy that aligns with the overall RSC mission. You will also help mentor and coach the less experienced members of your team so we continue to grow and improve together.

As a Senior UX Designer you will be the ‘voice of the customer’ and ensure the user is considered throughout the design and development process.


What we are looking for:

  • You’ll have extensive experience of working in user experience or product design related roles
  • You’ll have a deep understanding of Human-centred design and Design Thinking and how they are applied to problem solving
  • You’ll be able to create and apply UX strategies that align with organisational goals
  • You’ll be able to utilise the best interactive design practices
  • You’ll be familiar with information architecture methodologies
  • You have extensive experience of organising and executing usability testing and user interviews
  • You’ll be able to source and analyse insight to iteratively improve user experiences
  • You’ll understand the importance of usability and accessibility
  • You’ll love organising and facilitating co-creation workshops
  • You’ll be able to design effective user interfaces and justify your design decisions
  • You’ll have experience in creating and maintaining design personas and customer journey maps
  • You’ll be able to develop excellent working relationships with development teams (in-house or external suppliers), project managers, business analysts and architects as well as business stakeholders to communicate and deliver on requirements.
  • You’ll have expertise in standard UX software such as Sketch, Figma, Fullstory, Axure, GetFeedback etc

The Royal Society of Chemistry offers excellent benefits. The contractual base for this role is Cambridge, however we are currently piloting hybrid working, and you may be able to work from a location other than this, as agreed with your line manager.
