An opportunity has arisen at CDT for a Biochemist, as a Post-Doctoral Researcher, interested in bringing to market the next generation of fluorescent markers for biological applications.
Post-Doctoral Researcher, Fluorescent Tags (F-Tags)
In this role, you will provide a strong scientific contribution to the development of fluorescent nanoparticles. Specifically you will be involved in the functionalisation of the surface of nanoparticles and the attachment of biological receptors including small molecules and proteins for recognition of specific biomarkers in a number of biological labelling applications. You will evaluate the potential and optimise the performance of bio-functionalised fluorescent nanoparticles for end-use applications.
You will hold a Biochemistry or Chemistry PhD or alternatively a degree with equivalent relevant research experience gained in an industrial or academic environment. Extensive experience of surface chemistry and / or functionalisation of nanoparticles or surface attachment of bio-molecules (for example, antibodies, DNA) is an essential requirement. In addition, experience in one or more of the following areas would be highly desirable:
- Biological assays (for example ELISA, micro-array, cell labelling or flow cytometry).
- Synthesis and characterisation of nanoparticles.
- Knowledge of fluorescent materials (for example small molecule dyes, quantum dots or light-emitting polymers).
We are looking for someone self-motivated with a proactive, methodical and organised approach to work who has excellent problem-solving capabilities. You will be a team-player with the ability to communicate clearly at all levels of the organisation, on both a technical and non-technical level.
This role is offered on a 2 year fixed term contract.
CDT provides a dynamic work environment where your contribution will earn full recognition and reward. CDT offers a competitive salary and benefits package including 27 days holiday, private health and dental care, life assurance and pension scheme. In addition, CDT operates a flexi-time scheme.
