Assistant Accountant

A core part of the foundation that KISS depends on, our finance people work closely with the rest of the team to enable them to do their best work. Our Head of Finance works remotely part time to provide our month end reports and our Office Manager looks after the day to day requirements of a busy agency – preparing invoices, chasing payments, reporting on timesheets, looking after payroll and supporting in the any areas of financial operations.

We believe now is the perfect time to bring in an Assistant Accountant to compliment the team – to provide expert financial support, advice and recommendations; to aid financial planning and to ensure our day-to-day financial operations are running as effectively as they can. The growth of the finance team is an opportunity to provide even more financial support to the project teams and the right person will see this as an opportunity to grow with us and will feel excited about the possibilities of coming into a new role and shaping it up with key stakeholders.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Supporting and overseeing all matters of day-to-day finance administration function to include sales and purchase ledger, credit control, bank reconciliations, payroll, correct audit trail for all transactions as well as identifying and improving processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency at all times
  • Providing hands on guidance and support to the project teams to ensure accurate day-to-day financial data entry and billable records. Helping project leads to develop budgets from ground up, communicating effectively to ensure buy in and understanding at all levels, and providing accurate and intuitive information to allow the team to manage client projects profitably and confidently. Preparing and identifying financial analysis and reporting to aid the smooth running of the wider financial operations.
  • Supporting Head of Finance in preparation of month-end reports: trial balance, ledger reconciliations, WIP, month-end adjustments and associated reporting. Working to strict monthly deadlines. Working towards independent preparation of month-end files.
  • Working with our Head of Finance to support financial planning and analysis including company budgets, financial KPIs, profitability, forecasting and financial modelling. Preparing reports that create clarity and transparency to guide our financial decision making

As you develop alongside the role, we’ll also be looking for you to:

  • Work with us to automate where possible to work more efficiently and knowledgeably. Continually looking for ways to improve reporting of information, identifying project risks and implementing best practice throughout the agency.
  • Take on strategic oversight of compliance for a small business will be a part of the role that you’ll be happy to develop, ensuring areas such as ISO accreditations, cyber security and GDPR live and breathe throughout the agency.

Your skills and experience:

  • Fully or part-qualified ACCA/CIMA/ACA/AAT
  • Advanced Excel ability and strong systems experience. Experience of using Xero, WorkflowMax and Float desirable although training will be provided
  • Experience at a similar level likely gained through 3+ years’ experience above finance administration level within service industry
  • Experience of working in billable environment, ideally but not necessarily within a creative agency, highly desirable
  • Ability to work well with variety of stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to communicate financial information to non-financial people
  • You’ll have the confidence to challenge the status quo, whilst building and maintaining strong relationships and able to actionable recommendations - looking at all times to support and add value to a fast-moving creative agency and its people.
  • Ability to work autonomously and independently, prioritising effectively to deliver results
  • Able to support, provide guidance and empower those working with you in your team.
