Assistant Accountant

We’re looking for an Assistant Accountant, with great attention to detail and the ability to apply complex rules across a wide range of finance tasks, to join our Cambridge based team and help us to provide an excellent financial service to our internal and external customers.

As a member of our finance team, you’ll be operating in a highly complex compliance environment working across our Cambridge and Amsterdam offices and dealing with 20+ VAT jurisdictions.  You’ll be on a rotation with two other members of the team with joint responsibility for a wide range of finance administration tasks including Purchase Ledger, Sales Ledger, Cashbook, Fixed Assets, and Month End Processes. Some travel within Europe may also be required.  This is an exciting role, offering the opportunity to gain a broad range of finance experience in a company that provides support and encouragement for career development.

In addition, at GÉANT you’ll be able to work flexibly after your initial 6 month training period is complete, spending at least 3 days in the office each week with the rest of the time spent working remotely. Please note, during month end you will need to be in the office full time.  You will need to be physically located in the UK and live within commuting distance of our office in Cambridge.

We're looking for someone with some experience of working in a finance team and ideally studying for ACCA or CIMA. Strong MS Office skills, in particular Excel, are a must. Your attention to detail will be second to none and you’ll also need to be highly organised and able to prioritise. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills along with fluency in English is essential.  If you have an understanding of the EU VAT environment that would be helpful but it’s not essential.  Experience of Sage 200 and knowledge of Dutch or another European language will set you apart from other candidates.

If you thrive on managing priorities, take pride in getting things right first time, have a knack for spotting things that look out of place, and enjoy dealing with ambiguity, then this could be the role for you.

Why work for GÉANT? As an organisation at the heart of research and education networking, we offer talented individuals the opportunity to be part of something worthwhile. Thanks to our terabit network, 50 million researchers, scientists, academics and students can share record volumes of data unconstrained by location, solving some of humankind’s biggest challenges. Work at GÉANT and you’ll be supporting critical research into sustainable energy, deep space, high-energy physics, earth observation, environmental disasters, medicine and much more!

You’ll also receive excellent benefits including a generous holiday allowance and a 5% end of year allowance as standard.  The other benefits you receive will depend on the country you are employed in, but both include an appropriate pension scheme and medical insurance.  For full details of our benefits package please see our careers website - https://careers.geant.org/why-work-for-geant/.
