Assistant Professor in the Sociology of Gender and Sexuality

The Department of Sociology is looking to appoint an Assistant Professor in the Sociology of Gender and Sexuality from 1 September 2024. Further areas of specialization within the Sociology of Gender and Sexuality are open although we have a preference for candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: queer theory; feminist theory; intersectionality; sexual politics; gender in the global south.

The Department is particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to the development of one or more of our core research clusters: Science and Technology, Theory and Culture, and Politics and Inequality.

We are looking for someone with a strong background in the Sociology of Gender and Sexuality, who can demonstrate both breadth and depth of experience. The ideal candidate should have a proven upwards trajectory and an established or developing international reputation that would make them a leader in the field. They will also demonstrate the ability to undertake postgraduate and undergraduate teaching and supervision. The candidate will demonstrate an ability to support the growth of the MPhil within the three pathways (Media and Culture, Political and Economic Sociology, and Marginality and Exclusion); contribute to examining, assessment and admissions; and contribute fully to academic administration within the Department as well as potentially a College.
