ILS-UK has an exciting opportunity for a Associate Bioinformatics Scientist to support the Bioinformatics Operational Team. The role
Focus on Bioinformatics Operations. Responsible for the monitoring and management of various aspects of complex bioinformatics analysis tools used in the interpretation of sequencing data analysis results including defining, creating, developing, implementing, and unit testing.
Responsibilities will include
Monitor and manage the analysis pipeline for operations
Execute on existing and development of operational tasks to deliver genomic data through the ILS pipeline
Lead Support in the interpretation of sequencing data analysis results.
Develop algorithms and workflows under general instruction.
Work with data sets from current and new platforms to solve complex problems of analytical, computational, and integration-related topics.
Maintain bioinformatics software and database integration.
Provides support on methods, prototypes, and code for implementation in internal tools and end-user applications.
Complete tasks related to the management of the quality management system (QMS)
Assist with the training of staff in defined processes and generate/update training materials where required
Support the Establishment of Quality Assurance bioinformatics related metrics and protocols based on assay design and performance
Support the coordination of tasks in Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) such as collection of requirements, software verification, maintenance and clinical validation
Provides validation and support services
Work collaboratively with bioinformatics and research scientists across the organization in developing, improving and deploying bioinformatics tools.
Communicate findings and present results to relevant stakeholders such as R&D, process engineering, and laboratory team

Preferred background, skills and experience
MSc in Bioinformatics, Genetics, Computer/Data science, Computational Biology or related field with some relevant experience.
Experience working with tight Turn Around Times
Experience working in accredited clinical laboratories (e.g., UKAS and ISO 15189)
Experience working with Quality Management Systems (e.g., Non-Conformances, RCA)
Experience with health and data governance
Demonstrable skill developing tools and analysis pipelines with R and/or python
Proficient with standard bioinformatics and analysis tools and packages
Experience querying relational databases (e.g. SQL Server, MySQL, Postgres) and familiarity with database design approaches.
Experience with Linux, OS, and Windows
Experience with Git, Cloud computing, cron jobs
Experience with Life Software Cycle

[[ Familiar with machine learning, Bayesian statistics, clustering/classification, multivariate analysis.]]
Proficient with genomic analysis of sequencing data – (e.g., WGS, WES, gene panels)
Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
Familiar with current technologies in molecular biology analysis (e.g., Arrays, Sequencing, Genotyping)
Strong interpersonal skills; able to engage with and collaborate across inter-disciplinary groups.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Must be very detail oriented.
