Collection Logistics Manager

The University of Cambridge is one of the world's oldest universities and leading academic centres. If you're looking for a new challenge and would like excellent benefits, extensive learning opportunities and a stimulating working environment in return for your skills and contribution, there could be a job here for you.

Cambridge University Libraries is looking to recruit a Collection Logistics Manager.

Cambridge University Library (the UL) is one of the world's oldest university libraries - and home to one of the world's great collections of cultural treasures and research materials. Cambridge University Libraries (CUL) consists of over 30 sites and over 400 staff. Now is an exciting time to join CUL because we have an ambitious 10 year strategy, holding values at the core of what we do, to work with our communities (Research, Teaching and Learning, Public and Professional communities). This role is key to supporting CUL in delivering its ambitions, especially those linked to estates and collection management.

You will support data driven collection management decisions by analysing collection data, presenting it to colleagues then planning and overseeing collection moves across libraries in all subjects, making strategic use of the Library Storage Facility (LSF) to support estate development projects and participating in national print retention schemes. You will underpin your logistics work with knowledge of international cataloguing standards and use of data management systems.

You will also be a senior member of the Collection Logistics and Services Department, managing and tasking a team of 18.4 FTE who undertake logistics activity such as fetching books for users, book moving or reshelving, processes all done at industrial scale at the Library.

Liaison with stakeholders is a key skill necessary to co-ordinate and deliver projects so good communication and experience of successful project delivery will be fundamental to the role. Excellent organisational skills, the ability to work on your own initiative, to an excellent level of accuracy, to manage complex tasks, work under pressure and to tight deadlines are essential.

The role holder will be expected to work full time on site and can expect to oversee projects in various libraries across the University.

We welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.

We particularly welcome applications from a BME background for this vacancy as they are currently under-represented at this level in our department.
