We have a new opportunity in our Communications team for a Communications Officer to join us, with a primary focus on Internal Communications.

This opportunity would suit someone looking to develop their career in communications, developing skills in this area including social media skills. 

About the role:

  • You will develop engaging, high quality, written, visual and digital content for our range of channels, including for social media.

  • You will proactively coordinate communications ensuring they are effective and accessible for our audiences.

  • You will be working and learning across all areas of Institute and Campus communications both internally and externally

About you:

You will be self-motivated and driven to deliver high quality communications, you will be highly organised, focused with strong diplomatic skills, and be able to demonstrate strong persuasion and social skills and enjoy a dynamic, reciprocal and considerate environment.

About the team:

The Communications team promote the Sanger Institute's research and discoveries, using both traditional media such as print, radio interviews and TV footage and social media like Twitter, Facebook and the Sanger Institute blog. 

The Communications team are responsible for both external and internal communications, promoting Sanger Institute research, raising the profile of the Institute and Campus, and supporting the scientists and other staff members.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working in a similar communications role  and/or qualification in communications 
  • Excellent writing and content creation skills across multiple communications channels.
  • Resilience, multi-tasking, and ability to work to set deadlines.
  • Ability to absorb, evaluate and communicate complex information appropriate to the audience in lay terms.
  • Ability to manage and organise time effectively, knowing how to prioritise tasks and complete them to a high standard.
  • Flexibility to embrace change.
